UTSAVAMS

Some of the Festivals during the year celebrated in the temple are Sri.Ramanuja Tirunaksatram, Tiruvadi Pooram, Sri Krishna jayanthi, Navarathri, Karthika Masam, Dhanur Masam, Rathasapthami & Panguni Uttaram.

The important festivals are:

Brahmostsavam

The most glittering and colourful of all Utsavams is the Brahmotsavam. The Brahmotsavam is celebrated over a period of 13 days in the month of March / April (Tamil month – Panguni) every year. The Lord is taken around the village in a colourful procession both in the morning and evening on various vahanams during Brahmotsavam.

Some of the Vahanams that are most popular are the Garuda Vahanam, Shesha Vahanam, Hanumantha Vahanam, and Gaja Vahanam. Garudotsavam on the fifth day and the Rathotsavam on the eighth day are important days during Brahmotsavam.

According to Hindu texts, Garuda the king of Birds is the embodiment of Vedas (Vedatma vihageswara). Garuda is also known as periya thiruvadi meaning First Devotee. Hence, Lord Srinivasa selects Garuda as his Vahanam on this day.

Rathotsavam has its own significance. It is believed that whoever has darshan of the Lord seated on the Ratham (Chariot) or helps in pulling it, is assured of Moksha (Rathastham Kesavam Dristva Punar janma Navidyate). On the Rathostavam day, the Lord and Thayar are adorned with Mutthangi Kavacham.

Pavitrothsavam

Essentially this is a festival of purification; Agama Shastra says that if there are any Dosha’s in the recitation of Mantra’s or performance of Kriya’s or Dravya’s used in the temple, Pavithrothsavam brings shanty and weeds out the ill’s flowing out of all such knowing or unknowing acts of omission and commission.

This festival is elaborately performed in the month of October for four days every year. During Pavithrotsavam, the deities and all parts of the temple are adorned with Pavithrams. Homas are performed and vedic mantras recited. The atmosphere in the temple is charged with religious fervour.

Vaikunta Ekadashi

Vaikunta Ekadashi falls in the month of December-January every year. It is said that lord Brahma, Indra, Rudra and others visit Sri Vaikuntam on this day to have darshan of Lord Vishnu seated on Garuda Alwar.

Vishwaksenar, also known as Senai Mudaliar opens the Swarga Vashal and allows devotees to enter Sri Vaikuntam and have darshan of Lord Vishnu. Having darshan of Lord Vishnu and Vishwaksenar together at the Swarga vashal is considered very sacred.

On this day at Karumbatti, both Lord Srinivasa and Sri Padmavathi Thayar are adorned with the Vajra Kavacham.
