ABOUT THE TEMPLE


Sri Srinivasa Swamy Temple at Karumbatti (Kanamanapalli) near Kuppam Town in Andhra Pradesh is an ancient temple belived to be over 150 Years old. Sri Tirumalai Rangaswami lyengar, a senior civil servant in the then Govt. of Mysore took upon himself the daunting task of renovating the temple in the year 1938.

Sri Subrayappa and Sri Ventatesiah of Maldepalli village, who were at the time managing the temple, entrusted the right of management of the temple for life of Sri. T.Rangaswami lyengar in the year 1934 with a condition that he carries out extensive repairs to the dilapidated structure and restore the temple of the status of Theertha Parigraham.

Between the years 1936 & 1940, Sri T.Rangaswami lyengar built the Rajagopuram, mahadwaram, Prakaram and the Shri Padmavathi Thayar Sannidhi apart from carrying out extensive renovations to the dilapidated Temple.

The Jeernodhara Prathista of the renovated temple was conducted as per Pancharatra Agama Siddhanthan under the guidance of H.M. Maha Vidwan Goshteepuram Late Sreeman Sowmya Narayana Swamy and H. H. The Late Sri Thilasthanam Shatagopa Ramanuja Yatheendra Maha Desikan

Sri T. Rangaswami lyengar introduced elaborate Nithya Kainkaryams as per Agama Shastras starting from Vishwaroopa Seva to Shayanotsavam. The first Brahmotsavam was conducted in the year 1940. Koti Archana, sahasra Kalasha Abhishekam and Theppotsavam , were organized during his period, which lasted up to August 1954.

The management of the temple, on the demise of Sri. Rangaswami lyengr in 1954, passed on to Sri. K.Venkatachar, a resident of the village and over the years, on to others.

On the demise of Sri Budagur Krishnaswamy lyengar, the then Managing Trustee, in 1996, the management of the temple was entrusted to Sri. S. Kannan, grandson of Sri. T. Rangaswami lyengar.

After a lapse of 58 years, the Sri Srinivasa Swamy Endowment Fund, a trust set up to fund renovation expenses and organize various utsavams and poojas in the temple, renovated the Rajagopuram, the Mahadwaram, Vimana Gopurams, Dhwaja Sthambam and all other facilities at the temple.

The Jeernodhara Mahasamprokshanam of the renovated temple was performed on 15th March1998 under guidance of H.H. SriSrirangam Srimadh Andavan Sri Ranga Ramanuja Mahadesikan (Periyashram).

The Mahasamprokshanam of the Dhwaja Sthamba Kavacham was performed in November 2000 and H.H. Sri Sri Rangapriya Sripada Shrihi Swamigal visited the temple and performed Mangalashasanam.

After a gap of 60 years, Theppotsavam was celebrated at karumbatti in the Kuppachery lake during january2002. It is believed that the lord, having concluded his ceremonious travails on land, should also have an opportunity to terrestrial beings to offer their worship, the Lord also gives an opportunity to aquatic beings to worship him during the Theppotsavam when he goes around on a decorated float.
